Q. What is this camp all about?
A. The camp exists to allow men and boys who love God to enjoy His Creation along with the fellowship of those who are like minded. The speakers and topics are chosen to lift Him up and to challenge us. The woods where we meet is private land deep in the Michigan woods encircled by over one mile of pristine river frontage. The Rifle River is known for its clear water prime for water recreation such as canoes/kayaks/tubes as well as fishing. The woods is heavily timbered with majestic pines, plentiful aspen, as well as many hardwoods. We meet to glorify Him. Come and worship with us. All are welcome. Seeking to serve Him is our only requirement.
Q. What is provided?
A. Water, port-a-jons, and trash service. Ice is available for purchase. There are big top tents for worship services. Bring everything else you need to survive. This is wilderness camping. We don't care if you come in a 60' RV or backpack in.
Q. Is this camp something I would enjoy?
A. Is your version of "roughing it" NOT being able to have: a mint on your pillow and the bedcovers turned back for you? A Tall Caramel Java Chip Frappuccino and a fresh bagel with cream cheese? Cable TV? A wall thermostat? Hot water? If you answered yes to any of the above, this camp may not be your thing.
Q. Can I have the above things at a local hotel, and commute to the sessions?
A. Yes. The nearest hotels are located in Bay City (approx 45 min away), motels are in Standish (20 min), and local family campgrounds (10 min). There are spots at the camp to park your vehicle.
Q. If I stay in town and commute, will people at the camp know? Or worse, will they resent me?
A. If you don't comb your hair or use deodorant, and don't smell like an Egg McMuffin, it's possible nobody will be the wiser.
Q. What if I forget to pack something?
A. There is a gas station and Dollar General 10 minutes from camp entrance in Sterling, as well as hardware/camping stores 20 min away in Standish.
Q. Is recreation optional?
A. YES! The camp exists to allow us to draw closer to Him, so if you wish to stroll in the woods and admire His handiwork, be our guest!
Q. Are there any family campgrounds close by?
A. There are 4 campgrounds within 2 miles of the camp entrance with family camping and cabins available. Check 'Helpful Links' for more information. Make any reservations there early, they fill up quickly on summer weekends. We are now also offering family camping on a part of the property that is close to the road entrance but quite a ways from Men's Camp by foot. It has many large campsites and has a water well. Men could camp there with the family and then sneak out for Men's Camp sessions if they can manage to survive on their own for a couple hours at a time. You can commute back and forth as there is parking near the main tent.
Q. Can I bring my own firewood?
A. Please don't. It's possibly illegal, and can transport disease and critters into places that do not have them yet, like the camp. There is PLENTY of firewood, mostly dead ash, located at the camp; some may need cut/split.
Q. What is the recommended age for my young son(s) to attend?
A. Obviously it depends, but out of diapers thru kindergarten age is a good reference for starting out. It may be a good reference for winding up at the other end of the age spectrum also, but as long as you can change your own you are still welcome to come.
